Kindergarten, Grade 1 and Grade 2

Your Kinder to year 2 classes can learn about Spain with art projects to create in charcoal and paper mosaics. Salvador Dali was an interesting character, he liked to make funny shapes with his moustache. Kids can have fun drawing one of the many different styles he tried!

Antoni Gaudi was a Spanish architect and artist. He created stunning organic inspired buildings and mosaics in Barcelona, Spain. Kids can create a paper mosaic salamander and learn about this fascinating artist.

Students will learn about line, shape, colour, form, value, texture and contrast in the creation of these art works. 

Grade 3 and Grade 4

Spain has a long tradition of making ceramic artworks, and cazuelas, small tapas dishes are one of the most well known types. We look at the patterns and repetition in creating radial symmetry on the terracotta clay bowls. Make your own or purchase them to decorate in this inspiring art lesson. We look at pattern, colour, contrast, layering and radial symmetry while learning about the culture of Spain.

Pablo Picasso is one of the most well known Spanish artists of all time. He created a series of lithographs to promote his exhibitions that became gallery posters. We create our own Picasso inspired poster beginning with a continuous line portrait and then simplifying the portrait to a few lines. Add colour, artist and gallery details and frame to exhibit!

Students will learn about line, shape, colour, contrast and design. Use pencil, marker and paint sticks to create these fun Picasso inspired posters.

Grade 5 and Grade 6

The bull is tied closely to National Spanish identity and traditional spectacles such as the running of the bulls. We create a Picasso inspired bull painting with simplified lines and blocked colour, to celebrate this powerful beast, in all its splendour. Sketch the animal from reference images, outline in marker and create sections to colour. Choose a colour pallete and create a stunning bull artwork inspired by Picasso.

Lebrillo bowls are a Spanish traditional ceramic from the 15th century. They were large bowls created for everyday use in food preparation and were even used for bathing babies! They are created from terracotta clay and painted with forest green or cobalt blue to create monochromatic designs inspired by plants, pattern and nature.
