Illustrators for Kindergraten, Grade 1 and Grade 2

Illustrators for Kindergarten, grade 1 and grade 2. In these lesson plans students will discover works by UK illustrator Clare Youngs and create a gorgeous apple collage. We will look at USA children’s picture book favourite, Eric Carle and create a Mr Seahorse inspired artwork and a Very Hungry Caterpillar.

There are Artist Information sheets with details about each illustrator to download. Children will create patterns and textures on painted papers and collage these to make wonderful artworks. They will learn about shape, line, repetition, colour and pattern, and students will expand their understanding of composition, foreground and background. 

Illustrators for Grades 3 and 4

Illustrators for grades 3 and 4. Students will discover illustrator Gareth Lucas and be inspired to create a stunning tiger drawing using soft chalk pastels. We will work on black paper to make the colours pop and learn shading and blending techniques.

We look at contemporary Spanish Illustrator, Mia Charro and create an initial artwork, personalised to each student. The project focuses on foliage and pattern, repetition and shape to complete a stunning artwork. We will used mixed media with drawing, painting, and collage elements to create the final piece. 

Illustrators for Grades 5 and 6

Illustrators for grade 5 and 6. Students can learn about UK artist, Clare Youngs and create a patterned animal collage. In this artwork students will focus on pattern and shape and there’s lots of problem solving required to complete this colourful piece. Students will develop their sketching skills, learning how to create an outline and selecting elements and shapes to place within. Finer details and patterns will be added with swatches of colour and markers.

We also have an enchanting animal project based on the works of contemporary Spanish Illustrator, Mia Charro. Students choose their own animal and create a colourful character using mixed media to complete the work.
