Hokusai Wave
Create a Great Wave inspired by Japanese artist Hokusai – A Texture Art Lesson for K-2
Explore implied and actual texture in this bold and expressive artwork inspired by famous Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai. In this engaging lesson, young artists will learn about art history and different techniques to create a variety of textures. We use drawing, painting and collage techniques to create the artwork inspired by the ‘Great Wave off off Kanagawa’ which was an iconic woodblock print created around around 1831.
Perfect for K-2 classrooms, this project explores the key art element of texture. Students will develop their drawing skills while learning about movement. This dynamic and creative activity is an artclassroom favourite, simple to teach, fun to make, and rich in history.
